As many of our valued patients have noticed, our Slumber Tincture has been missing from our menus for the past few months. This product was originally formulated with the intention of helping our patients who needed assistance falling asleep. However, the combination of melatonin with THC and other cannabinoids is not yet well-researched. Consequently, the Department of Health, erring on the side of caution, asked us to remove our Slumber Tincture from our menu.

A New Approach to Good Sleep

Not all is lost, though. We still wanted to provide something for our patients to potentially help with their sleep. After considering how we could improve our product, we decided to use CBN, a cannabinoid commonly associated with promoting sleep, in our tinctures.

Understanding Cannabinoids

Going back to the basics, cannabinoids are the chemical compounds that make up a cannabis plant. While many people are familiar with THC and CBD, other cannabinoids like CBN, CBG, and more are being discovered. As more research is conducted, it becomes clear that each cannabinoid has its unique potential benefits.

Introducing the New Slumber Tincture

Our newly formulated Slumber Tincture contains 20mg/ml THC, 10mg/ml CBD, and 10mg/ml CBN, making it a more rounded product. Although each cannabinoid is beneficial on its own, the cannabis theory known as the “Entourage Effect” suggests that the medicinal properties of cannabis are enhanced when different cannabinoids are paired together, reflecting the plant’s natural molecular makeup. With three major cannabinoids in our Slumber Tincture, it offers a more full-spectrum product, better mirroring the natural chemical composition of a cannabis plant. To learn more about cannabinoids, we welcome you to check out page 20 of our Patient Handbook here.

For more information on how CBN can help individuals who experience trouble sleeping, we recommend this article by the Sleep Foundation: CBN for Sleep. The article shares that CBN shows promise for helping people fall asleep quicker, stay asleep through the night, helps with pain management, supports the immune system, is anti-inflammatory, treats glaucoma, and is often used to manage symptoms of ADHD.

More Cannabinoid-Specific Products

In the past, we’ve offered cannabinoid-specific products like our Windward Ease Gummies, which contain CBG/THC, and our Leeward Dreams Gummies, which contain THC/CBN. Fans of our Leeward Dreams Gummies will definitely want to try our new Slumber Tincture! More information about our gummies can be found here.

Additional Sleep Support

While we can no longer include melatonin in our product, those who miss the old tincture can always use melatonin as a supplement for additional sleep support. Melatonin is a commonly used sleep aid available in most drug stores and can be a helpful addition to your nighttime routine if you’re craving the familiar effects of our previous formulation.

A Word of Caution

As with all our medicine, we want to remind our patients that much more research on cannabis needs to be done. Since cannabis is still federally illegal, a lot of potential research is hindered due to the lack of federal funding. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the effects of CBN, despite its promising results. Everyone’s body is different, and only you know your body. If this is your first time using CBN, or any combination of CBD/THC/CBN, please start with a small amount and gradually increase to the dosage that feels comfortable for you. This may take time and require experimentation, but finding the right dose could potentially mean a great night of sleep!
